Hey Tribe,
Today we enjoyed a blindingly bright winter walk on Beach
Lake with some of our local Karelian Bear Dogs and their owners. Late February/early March is a wonderful time
in Alaska, if you don’t mind the cold, and days like this one are a boost to an
Alaskan’s vitamin D starved soul.
Sunshine transforms the winter landscape from its dull, gray, monotony
into Scrooge McDuck’s treasure vault of glittering diamonds, liquid gold, and
an abundance of greenery. With the
daylight, we can actually see how beautiful our state is, having forgotten what
it looks like as we trudged through the dark days of winter.

I digress.
We had six
Karelians in our pack today – the largest group to date, not including the
first meet-up when we had 5, plus an honorary KBD (Shiba Inu).
Two were new to our group, but they fit right
in and everyone had a riotous romp through the deep snow blanketing the lake.
Fly was particularly smitten with the new
guy, Finn (a most handsome, nearly all black, big fella), and the two of them
were nearly inseparable as they play-fought their way along our pack’s path.

Owner chat topics orbited our beloved breed and our dogs’
antics both at home and at present, with an occasional “It’s such a beautiful
day!” or similar observation interjected from time to time.
|
As best a group photo as could be managed. Oh well. |
A good time was had by all, as evidenced by six very long
tongues in the parking lot and promises of a next meet-up in May.

Finn, Freya, Fly, and Fowie (ok, it's really Howie) say, "More treats, please!" |
